In the muncipality of Høyanger you will find a nice part of the worlds longest fjord: The Sognefjord. Some 200 km long, and 1300 meter deep on its deepest right ouside of Vadheim, 25 minut south of Førde. If you travel from Bergen by car or bus you will meet the Sognefjord where E-39 crosses the fjord from Oppedal to Lavik.
Førdefjorden
The Førdefjord is the northernmost of the two fjords in Sunnfjord. Starting at Førde and running out to the sea at Florø. You can follow the Førdefjord by driving the Fjordvegen road to Florø.
Dalsfjorden
The Dalsfjord is the authentic Viking fjord. Where the Gaular watercourse plunges into the fjord in the shape of Osfossen Waterfall, marks the start of national poet Jakob Sande's fjord. It was from this fjord that Ingolf Arnason set sail from. He was the first governor on Iceland. The Gaular Play (a Viking drama) is performed every other year at Osen Farm. Or you might like to try your hand at rowing on board a real Viking longboat in Bygstad.
